Reboot Theatre Company, known for its intriguing deep dives and fresh interpretations of musicals, brings to life 110 in the Shade, a beautiful exploration of love, hope, and acceptance.
Constrained by the conventions of a small western town besieged by drought, Lizzie Curry longs for an honest and true connection. Lizzie's family thinks the recently widowed sheriff is the perfect candidate. However, a charismatic stranger arrives claiming the ability to make it rain; catching the attention of Lizzie and the entire Curry family. Suspicious, Lizzie tries to pick apart this stranger’s story but along the way, realizes a deeper truth about what it means to love.
Since the source material was written in the 1950’s, Director Scot Charles Anderson intends to challenge the simplified gender roles presented in the show. Casting will be key for that exploration and, in true Reboot fashion, the company will not be constrained by gender norms with any of the characters. In addition, we will be leaning more into the country-style of the music rather than what is typically heard on the recordings. We are also exploring the concept of the actors integrating Foley sound effects into the show.
