Synopsis:
Dream Hou$e follows two Latina sisters on an HGTV-style reality show who are selling their family home, hoping to capitalize on the gentrification in their “changing neighborhood.” As they perform for the camera, one sister grapples with turmoil in the family’s ancestral past while the other learns how much she’s willing to sacrifice for the family’s future. What is the cultural cost of progress in America — and is cashing in always selling out?
Playwright Note on Casting:
The Latine community is not monolithic and its identities exist along a
spectrum of racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The play’s themes
of displacement are particularly embedded in Indigenous Latine and
Black Latine experiences. I encourage producing theaters to be mindful
of the communities present in your city.
Director's Note:
Keeping in mind the Playwright's note on casting, we want to reflect the communities in Seattle that have experienced displacement through colonization and/or gentrification and encourage non-Latine Black and Indigenous folks to audition.
