DETAILS
All rehearsals and performances will be held at Bainbridge Performing Arts, located on Bainbridge Island and a short walk from the ferry terminal at 200 Madison Ave N. Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. The 35-minute ferry leaves from Coleman dock on the Seattle waterfront and walk-on ferry passes will be provided for our Seattle-area cast members for rehearsals and performances.

Auditions will be in-person on Tuesday, July 30th at BPA and Wednesday, July 31st in Seattle at Theatre Puget Sound.

Callbacks will be held in person by invitation Sunday, August 11th at Bainbridge Performing Arts.

Rehearsals will begin October 7th, and will be four days a week (Mon, Tues & Thurs evenings and Saturday days). A more complete rehearsal schedule will be provided at callbacks.

Performances will be December 5-22, 2024 (with Saturdays as matinee performances) at Bainbridge Performing Arts.

Audition Requirements

Please fill out the audition form below to request an audition appointment. Be sure to specify which date / location you prefer. You will receive an email to confirm audition time. NOTE: The form includes an option to upload a video audition which is not necessary when auditioning for Anastasia.

Please prepare; a verse and chorus of two contrasting Musical Theatre songs and a 1-2 minute monologue.

An accompanist will be provided but you must bring sheet music – clearly marked and in a three-ring binder. Please – no outside accompanists or acapella singing.

CHARACTERS

Anya / Princess Anastasia- a lost soul, but one with great strength, pride, determination, and dignity. As the story progresses, she begins to discover her sense of self and the possibility that she may be the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas II. Range: G3-F5, Belt to D5

Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna- the formidable and imperious grandmother of Anastasia. Anastasia is her favorite grandchild, and she loves her with all her heart. She never gives up the belief that her granddaughter might be alive but finally, after years of enduring impersonators, she becomes bitter and hardened. Range: F3-Bb4

Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch- confidante and lady-in-waiting to the Dowager Empress. She’s compassionate, respectful, and good at her job, but also delightful and worldly when she’s not with the Dowager. Range: G3-C5

Dmitry- an opportunist trying to make it on the streets of Russia by selling stolen objects from the Tsarist past. He creates the scheme to find an Anastasia impersonator in order to gain the reward for her safe return. He’s tough, persuasive, and daring. Range: A2-A4

Vlad Popov- Dmitry’s right hand man, and because of his romantic relationship with Lily, arranges a meeting between Anya and the Dowager Empress. Range: A2-F4

Gleb Vaganov- a son of the Russian revolution. As a career officer in the Bolshevik secret police, he is a passionate defender of the hardwon gains of the new order. His attraction to Anya puts him in violent conflict with himself. Range: A2-Ab4

Tsarina Alexandra- Anastasia’s mother and Tsarina of Russia

Young Anastasia- age 7-12 but needs to appear to be the younger end of age range. A sweet and impressionable young princess. Willful, brave, proud and precocious youngest daughter of the Tsar. Sweet child soprano, Range: A3-C5

Count Leopold- a presumptive Romanov heir.

Tsar Nicholas II- Anastasia’s father and Tsar of Russia

Odette, Prince Siegfried, and Von Rothbart- ballet dancers in Swan Lake

Count Ipolitov- a Count from Old Russia who, saddened, plans to leave his country. Range: A2-Eb4

Alexi Romanov- Anastasia’s brother, age 13-14

Gorlinskly- Gleb’s very powerful superior

Tatiana, Maria and Olga Romanov- Anastaisa’s sisters, ages late teens / early 20’s

Marfa, Dunya, and Paulina,- three Russian women who ‘audition’ for the ‘role’ of Anastasia

Ensemble, playing Townsfolk, Royal Servants, Bolshevik Officers and Soldiers, Parisians, Reporters, and Aristocrats
