About the Project

Artemis Theatre Project and Radial Theater Project are holding auditions for The Beautiful Future is Coming, by Flora Wilson Brown. Directed by Diana Trotter.

Performances will be February 19-March 7 2027, at West of Lenin. Rehearsals begin January 9th.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
1856. New York. Eunice Foote makes an ominous discovery about CO2 and the greenhouse effect and fights for her work to be recognized by the male-dominated scientific establishment.
2027. London. Claire falls in love with her co-worker while working on a Greenpeace PR campaign amid increasingly severe weather events with heart-breaking consequences.
2100. Svalbard. Mother-to-be Ana and her research-lab partner struggle to germinate seeds for the world’s dwindling food supply while trapped by a months-long storm.
Three women whose interweaving stories connect across time wrestle with what it means to choose life and love in the face of our world’s gravest threat. Described by audiences as “stunning,” “hopeful” and “beautifully theatrical,” The Beautiful Future is Coming is both surprisingly funny and painfully heart-rending as it “shrewdly questions how we can actively cultivate hope, even as we feel overwhelmed by despair.” (The Stage, UK)

CHARACTERS: (more extensive descriptions available on the audition form):

Eunice Foote – White Female, mid-30s. The scientist who discovered what we know as the “greenhouse effect.” Because this is a biographical role and the production examines Foote’s gender-based exclusion in the 1850s scientific community, the role will be cast with a white actor.

John Foote – White Male, mid-40s. Eunice’s husband. Because this is a biographical role and the production examines gender-based exclusion in the 1850s scientific community, the role will be cast with a white actor.

Claire – Female, late-20s to mid-30s. A Londoner. In a relationship with Dani(el). Open to performers of all races and ethnicities.

Dani(el) – Any Gender, late-20s to mid-30s. A Londoner. In a relationship with Claire. Open to performers of all races and ethnicities.
