Hedda Gabler Auditions

Expires: January 31, 2023

About the Project

General Gabler’s Theatre Presents
Hedda Gabler
by Henrik Ibsen | Translated by Eva Le Gallienne
Directed by Helen T. Mariam

General Gabler’s Theatre invites women (of cis and/or trans experience) and nonbinary actors to audition for our company’s inaugural production. This production is supported by a grant from 4Culture. To learn more about General Gabler’s Theatre, please visit www.generaltheatre.org.

Join us in 19th century Oslo at the spacious home of a woman with plenty of will but no room to exact it. She thought she made a wise deal with the man she just married. She would be his wife, and he would provide her with the safe and respectable means to occupy her active mind. But when it becomes clear that her husband can’t fulfill his end of the bargain, her active mind quickly turns toward the dangerous.

All roles will be played by either a nonbinary actor or a woman actor. The gender of each character in the play will remain as written. For example, JUDGE BRACK will be performed as a man as written but will be played by a woman or nonbinary actor.

We envision a diverse and multiracial cast that reflects our Seattle community. Actors of color, actors with disabilities, and queer and trans actors are highly encouraged to audition.

Please note that the role of HEDDA GABLER is already cast. All other roles are available!

Auditions:
Please prepare a two-minute dramatic monologue from any period. If you go a little over, that’s cool; we get it. Don’t stress! :)

You may choose to audition in person or via video submission. No weight will be given to either method.

  • In-person auditions will take place on Sunday, 1/29 from 12:30pm - 4pm at Theatre Puget Sound. We will schedule in-person audition time slots on a first come first served basis.
  • Video submissions are due by Sunday, 1/29.

To submit, please email generalgablerstheatre@gmail.com with the following:

  • Headshot and resume;
  • Any conflicts with the 2/5 callback date; and
  • Audition video OR availability on audition dates.

We welcome you to share any access needs you need met in order to fully participate in the audition process and/or the production. Nothing you share will be factored into casting decisions.

Unfortunately, we cannot cast any actors who have conflicts with tech or performance dates.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Mask Requirement:
All cast members, designers, and crew must be fully vaccinated to participate in this production. Fully vaccinated includes at least one booster shot. We highly recommend that all actors get the bivalent (Omicron) booster; however, we are not specifically requiring it. You can learn more about the bivalent booster here.

Proof of vaccination is required by first in-person audition. Actors may be asked to unmask one at a time during auditions. Whenever one actor is unmasked, all other people in the audition room will be masked.

All rehearsals will be masked. Actors will be unmasked during tech runs and live performances. As of now, we intend to have a masked audience. This will not change without us first conferring with each cast and stage crew member.
