About the Project

Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) is seeking a Latina/Latinx/Latine actor who can play a female-presenting Tejana in her 20s to 40s in the one-person play The Night Shift Before Christmas, by Isaac Gómez.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Meet Margot, a Tejana whose personal tradition is to work the Christmas Eve overnight shift at a beloved Texas burger joint. But when her dead best friend Jackie Marley drops by to warn her of impending late-night visits by spirits, Margot has to confront the very Scrooge she’s become. It’s a Christmas Eve like none other in this one-woman tour de force filled with humor and heart.

This is the story of a woman who chooses to be lonely even though she isn’t alone, and her journey to discovering why that is, what she’s avoiding, and a possible alternative. With its collisions of life, love, heartbreak, joy and messiness, the show is as hilarious as it is scary as it is sad.

Contains some adult language and content.

CLYDE - In the realm of Christmas Past. A Happy Burger patron. Mid-50s. Member of the Choir at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Introverted extrovert who love performing but hates audiences. He’s got a Texas drawl to him. RICO - In the realm of Christmas Lost, a Tiny Tim left behind. Mentally ill homeless man who tries to camp outside Happy Burger. 26. GRACIE - In the realm of Christmas Present. Dolores’ cousin. Late 20s. Fierce performer, vulnerable heart, a free spirit. Cares deeply about what other people think, but pretends not to. DOLORES - A warning akin to a Christmas Yet to Come. Margot’s mother. Mid-50s. A kind, compassionate soul with a smile that could light up any room. Her energy is pure—something that feels untouched. Something that heals all wounds. An ancestral maternal spiritual entity. The type of mother you forgot you needed.
