Character Breakdown:
HALINA is a sweet, eight year old orphan in the ghetto. She is highly aware, sensitive, and afraid. Feeling so lost in the world, she has trouble understanding her life situation and has internalized her response to the outside world as a defense mechanism - this has resulted in her not speaking for the majority of the story.
DAVID (Dav-eed) is a ten year old smuggler in the ghetto. Energetic, precocious, hard to control. Sees himself on equal footing to most adults. He hates Benlevi and sees himself superior to him. Very confident!
Sarah, an eight year old orphan being cared for at the orphanage. She’s precocious and likes to get the larger group laughing and enjoying themselves, a bit of a trouble maker and keeps Sister Rutka on her toes, but she always has the best of intentions.
Ensemble: other children at the orphanage who engage and react to the story. Looking for boys and girls ages 6-11.
