Washington Ensemble Theatre will be accepting submissions for our 2023 winter production of Arlington by Enda Walsh.

Arlington Synopsis:
Isla waits for her number to be called. A young woman finally understands her fate. And a young man faces a stark decision. In a cacophony of poetry, art, + dance, Enda Walsh’s Arlington tells an unsuspecting love story amidst a bleak Orwellian dystopia.
All actors should feel comfortable using an Irish dialect. There will be a Dialect Coach provided.
Production Schedule:
*Rehearsals are usually Monday – Friday 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm. This might change based on the needs of the room.
*Performances and rehearsals will be at 12th Avenue Arts on Capitol Hill.
First Rehearsal: November 22nd, 2022
Holiday Break: December 17th, 2022-January 1st, 2023
Tech begins: January 5, 2023
Opening Night: January 13, 2023
Closing: January 30th, 2023

What to Prepare:
For the submission, we would love for you to share some prepared material with us. This can be a monologue, an excerpt from your favorite book, a poem, a song, a combination of these things– anything that makes you feel like you are sharing your best self with us. Feel free to prepare as little or as much as your heart desires. We would like to see between 1 and 3 minutes of material.

Young Man - early 30’s
Isla - early 30’s
Young Woman - non-speaking, movement-based role
Voices*
Supervisor - (she/her) reminiscent of 1984’s Big Brother (this role will potentially be needed in the space at every performance)
Michael- in the style of Andy from The Andy Griffith Show with an Irish dialect
Maureen-in the style of Eve Arden on Our Miss Brooks with an Irish dialect
The Usual Man
* Michael, Maureen, and The Unusual Man will be recorded roles and the actors do not need to be present for the rehearsal process.
