About the project and the company

3030 E. Crown Street is the premiere play from new playwright, Jeffrey Lee Cheatham II. 3030 E. Crown Street is a story about an estranged family reconnecting to deal with a family tragedy, after they discover their childhood home is going to be sold.
3030 E. Crown Street is a nine-character, ambitious project that centers around the themes of family, grief, and Forgiveness. Majority of the play takes place in 2012. There are characters in the play that will require the actor to have the ability to play a younger version of the character.

Audition requirements

Submit a video of 2 contrasting Monologues: DRAMATIC & COMEDIC. Additionally, if you have southern dialect experience please submit a sample of each dialect.

Character breakdown / Project needs
Joseph “Papa Joe” Judge Sr.
African American Male. Patriarch of Judge family. Born in Arkansas, moved to Seattle for a job as a longshoreman. Fun-loving protector of his family. Vietnam-veteran. Always there for his family, no matter what.
Linda “Momma Linda” Judge
African American female. The matriarch of the Judge family. Born in Arkansas, moved to Seattle with Joseph to start a family. A classically trained pianist. The disciplinarian of the house. A true definition of a woman from the south.
Joseph “Joe-Joe” Judge Jr.
African American Male. The oldest brother of the Judge family. Huge fan of Prince with his sister Kiara and loves playing basket with his younger brother, Lamont. Becomes more comfortable accepting himself being gay after the support of his family.
Kiara “K-Jay” Judge
African American female. The second oldest. The drill sergeant of the siblings. She cares more about things than she reveals. HBCU Graduate and married to her HS sweetheart Isaac.
Lamont “L-Jay” Judge
African American, Gay Male. Youngest before the birth of Montique. A family tragedy causes him to become estranged from everyone. Recovering alcoholic. Adores older brother Joe-Joe. Constantly fights with Kiara.
Montique “Monty” Judge
African American Male. The youngest sibling in the family. Engineer major in Oregon. Bothered how he is never included in big family discussions or issues Feels invisible. Angry at Lamont for leaving him behind.
Chelsea “Chance” Simmons
Adoptive daughter. Biological parents are a pimp and a sex worker. Hard time adjusting to the family dynamic until Linda teaches her how to play the piano.
Vincent Dagosta
White Male. Real Estate agent. College friend of Yua. Born in New York, raised in a wealthy part of Washington. His ambition comes from a genuine place, even if it’s mistaken for greed.
Yua kondo
Asian female. Real Estate agent. College friend of Vincent. Daughter of a well-known businessman. More community-minded than looks would give. The selling of 3030 E. Crown Street stirs up memories in Yua since she grew up in the neighborhood.
