CASTING CALL
Title: The Calendar (Alice at the tea party)
Genre: surrealism/drama
Project type: Student Film Short (~5 min)
While taking pictures for a calendar, Alice stumbles upon the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and the Dormouse, sitting at a large table set for tea, and tries to engage them in conversation. The Hatter and the Hare are more interested in their ridiculous conversation and constant riddles while the Dormouse sleeps. After initial frustration, she finally joins the party.
Auditions: April, Sun 2nd 2023, 1:30pm-5:30pm in Suzzallo Library on UW Campus.
Shooting Schedule: Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, in the Seattle, Madrona neighborhood.
Alice – (female, early-mid 20s – early 30s, all ethnicities), is a curious, imaginative, and headstrong woman, who gets increasingly frustrated with the ridiculousness of the tea party, but, in the end, stays, finding some empathy for the condition of the bizarre party.
The Mad Hatter – (late 30s+, all gender, all ethnicities) is mad, colorful and irrational and a symbol of the arbitrary nature of sanity and insanity. Bonus: Mad hatter costume, top hat, colorful wig, do your own makeup.
March Hare – (any age, all gender, all ethnicities) is a zany, mischievous character who, along with the Mad Hatter, engages Alice in bizarre and nonsensical conversations and tea parties. Bonus: Rabbit costume or a white tracksuit, white bunny ears
Mouse – (any age, all gender, all ethnicities) mostly sleeping throughout the scene. He represents laziness and the exploitation of the working class. Note: this character has very few lines. Bonus: Mouse ears, brown fur coat
