Audition: "Queenfisher"

The Shattered Glass Project

About the project and the company

“Queenfisher”

written by Natalie Schmidt and directed by Helen Gebreamlak.

ABOUT THE PLAY AND THE PRODUCTION:

In this queer reimagining of the myth of Ceyx and Alcyone, weather goddess Iris’s life on the magical island of Aeolia has been upended by her best friend Alcyone’s whirlwind romance and sudden marriage to seafarer Ceyx. When an ill omen chases Ceyx from the island in pursuit of an oracle, Iris and Alcyone must contend with sea-drenched ghosts, unsettling dreams, and close-held secrets as they struggle to shape their futures.

Content warnings: Contains depictions of attempted suicide, drowning, and death, as well as allusions to torture and execution. Questions about the script may be addressed to us at theshatteredglassproject@gmail.com and we will arrange for responses from the director.

CASTING NOTES AND INFORMATION:

Character breakdown / Project needs
IRIS:
She/her. A relatively new weather goddess who grew up on Aeolia and serves as the Olympians' messenger. Literally a rainbow in human form. Transcends mortality and is therefore slightly baffled by it. Devoted to her friends but never loses sight of what she wants.
ALCYONE:
She/her. The caretaker of the moving island of Aeolia and a demigoddess, which sounds fancier than it is--she's the mortal daughter of a god. Sees the best in everyone. She was happy living mostly alone on Aeolia; now, she's happier. This role requires some movement work. This character kisses CEYX.
MORPHEUS
He/him, but can be played by an actor of any gender. One of three minor dream gods. A shapeshifter and a trickster with a soft spot for humans. An excellent mimic. Plays all other characters; occasionally plays Iris and Ceyx too. This role requires stage combat.
CEYX
She/her. A seafarer, an adventurer, a swashbuckler with a heart of gold. She's been looking for safe harbor and will do anything to protect it now that she's found it. This role requires stage combat and some movement work. This character kisses ALCYONE.
