Auditions for new adaptation of "Miracle on 34th Street"

Red Curtain Foundation For The Arts

About the project and the company

Red Curtain announces auditions for our original adaptation of the holiday classic, “A Miracle on 34th Street,” written and directed by Scott B. Randall. The show will run November 25-December 18, 2022, and will be performed live in person at the Red Curtain Arts Center.

Set in December 2020, when Jessie’s elderly father goes into the hospital with COVID, her theatre friends gather on a video call to cheer her and her daughter, Kara, up by doing a sort of readers theatre performance. Being performers, the story is a mix of the true story, improvised lines, and pop culture references, sure to help bring out the feelings of closeness and joy associated with the season.

As this is an original adaptation, the cast will have the opportunity to give feedback and make adjustments to the script, to create a better finished product.

This script is intended to reflect the diversity of a modern group of friends, so BIPOC and LGBTQ+ actors are encouraged to submit. All roles are open.

Location of Audition

Auditions and performances will be held at the Red Curtain Arts Center, located at 9315 State Ave #J in Marysville, WA. We're in the same shopping center as the Goodwill, but our entrance is around back, behind the beauty school.

Other details

Performances will run four weekends, Nov 25-Dec 18, 2022

Character breakdown / Project needs
JESSIE--BIPOC F 30-40 years old
Jessie is a single mother and aspiring actress. Her father has just been hospitalized for COVID-19, and she is concerned about her family, especially her daughter, Kara.
KARA--BIPOC F 7-10 years old
Kara is Jessie's only child, and perhaps innocent for her age. She is very worried about her grandfather being hospitalized.
MICHAEL--M 30-40 years old
Jessie's boyfriend for nearly a year. He is warm and caring, a good match for both Jessie and Kara. He and Jessie met while working on a show together.
BETH--F 25-40 years old
Jessie's best friend and Kara's unofficial aunt. Beth calls herself a dancer who acts. She is a bit kooky and free-spirited.
AJ--Any Gender/any age
AJ is a musician and (preferably) a trans artist. They are nurturing and compassionate and protective of their friends. Must be able to play an instrument (piano/guitar/etc) and be comfortable singing simple holiday tunes.
CALEB--M 20-25
Caleb is an actor and somewhat typical Gen Z kid, getting all his news and entertainment from his phone, and actively engaged with memes, tiktoks, and so on. He's a bit of a class clown type.
NICK--M 45+
Nick is another actor and the newest addition to Jessie's circle of friends. Not exactly tech-savvy, he definitely stands out as being from a different generation. He may or may not also be Santa Claus!
