Auditions: Orlando, by Virginia Woolf, adapted by Sarah Ruhl

Screaming Butterflies Theater

About the project and the company

Screaming Butterflies Theater is seeking 5 actors for our Spring Production of “Orlando”.  Virginia Woolf’s exploration of time, gender, and self-realization begins in Elizabethan England, travels to Constantinople, and stretches to the late 1920’s, with Orlando inexplicably living through the centuries, first as a man, and then waking up one day as a woman. One actor will play Orlando, the other four will play eighteen other characters and the Chorus.

Because of its scope, this production will be suggestive, using lights, sound, movement, to portray changes in time, character, and gender.

Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday from 7-10pm and Saturdays form 10am-1pm beginning March 22nd.  Tech Weekend on May 6-7, Dress May 9-11th.

Performances will be May 12-28th Friday and Saturday @ 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm, with one Monday for a Pay What You Will Industry Night performance (either May 15th or 22nd TBD).

Actors will receive a $75 stipend; all participating artists, designers, crew members, etc. will receive an equal share of proceeds from Industry Night ticket sales.

Screaming Butterflies is actively seeking out actors of all genders, races, ethnicities, body shapes and sizes for this production.  Unfortunately, the performance location is on the second floor of a building with no elevator, so we are limited to working with actors who are able to climb stairs.

Screaming Butterflies mission is to Re-Vision myth, community, and justice through tenacious, imaginative and unapologetic creativity.
