Ballyhoo Theatre

About the project and the company

Ballyhoo Theatre educational program is looking for a Black youth actor, ages 13-21, (any gender) for our production of Little Shop of Horrors. The role is Trio and Understudy for Audrey II. Needs to be strong with harmonies. Rehearsals are in the late afternoon/evening and sometimes on Saturdays, starting March 25. Shows are May 5-14. The actor we cast needed to step out, unfortunately. We will offer a FULL SCHOLARSHIP and, if needed, a travel stipend for transportation back and forth to Edmonds.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This scary carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn – as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows, Little Shop Of Horrors, by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin), is one of the most popular musicals of all time.

Ballyhoo strives to create a casting process that is welcoming and serves those auditioning as well as the creative team in the full exploration of the material.  All body types, races, ethnicities, and abilities are desired for any available role.  Ballyhoo recognizes that most characters are written as binary (using he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invited GNC, genderqueer, transgender, and nonbinary actors to submit for the roles with which they identify. ALL ROLES IN LITTLE SHOP ARE OPEN TO ALL GENDERS!

All rehearsals and performance will be in person. We will be following all Covid-19 State safety guidelines, and will update them as needed during the process. The safety of our students, creative staff, crew and audiences are paramount.

At Ballyhoo Theatre our focus is education and inclusion. We celebrate people of every gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and ability. We strive, always, to address and maintain a space that works towards anti-racism and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and acknowledges when we fall short. We work to create a safe and inclusive space for young performers to be seen and joyously accepted, and to explore, learn and thrive.
