Book-It Repertory Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive production and to inspiring its audiences to read. We create world-premiere adaptations of classic and contemporary literature.

Book-It is holding open auditions for our 2021-2022 season. We are proud to have safely produced an all-audio season in 2020-2021, adapting to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. For our 2021-2022 season, we will continue with two audio plays in the Fall of 2021, and we plan to return to in-person gatherings with three live performances in Winter/Spring 2022.

The 5 selections from the Book-It catalogue can be found HERE. Choose only one to read at your appointment. The character(s) you are invited to read are listed at the top of each PDF. Please read the sides carefully, and I encourage you to read for the character with which you most identify. You do not need to be familiar with the book that the piece is adapted from.

Job Description

We're seeking actors of all genders, identities, ethnicities, abilities and ages with a passion for collaboration and literature. Bonus if you are passionate about new works. For our Audio Productions: Seeking vocal talent. Fairly flexible scheduling. Rehearsals and recording sessions will not exceed more than 4 hours per day. For our Stage Productions: Seeking talent for live, staged performance. Rehearsal schedule may include day, evening and weekend times and will vary based on the assembled cast. Rehearsal period typically lasts 6 weeks, including technical rehearsal period. Performances are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings; with afternoon matinees on Sundays and some Saturdays and Wednesdays.

Required Qualifications

Whether you’ve worked with Book-It before or not, I’d like to see you! All experience levels are welcome, and preference will be given to local artists. If you are a member of AEA (Actors’ Equity Association), we will hold Equity generals later in the year. Come prepared for the following: ***A conversation. I want to know the stories that get you excited. I want to know how you like to create. What stories do you see yourself in? What is it about these stories that draw you in? What excites you about storytelling? What questions do you have about Book-It? ***Read a scene with me. Choose one of the 5 provided selections from the Book-It catalogue. Please review your selection prior to your appointment, at which time we will read it aloud together. My goals for this exercise are (1) to get a sense of how you collaborate, and (2) to give you a sense of the Book-It adaptation style, if you are not familiar with it. ***No headshot or resume is required for these appointments.
