Casting for The Woolgatherer

18th and Union

About the project and the company

The Woolgatherer, a co-production between 18th and Union and director/producer Margie Slovan, is looking for two actors to play ROSE and CLIFF.

Actors of Color are strongly encouraged to audition.

Performances will take place at 18th and Union. The show opens on November 4 and closes on November 7, 2021.

Actors will be paid a $350 honorarium.

The Woolgatherer, by William Mastrosimone, is a romantic comedy about two people who are desperate for love, and just as desperate to avoid it. Winner of the LA Drama Critics Award for best play of 1982.

Auditions will be held via Zoom during the week of August 23. Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues. You can also submit pre-recorded monologues for this initial audition.

Callbacks will be held in person during the first week of September. Sides from the script will be provided for callbacks. Callbacks will be held in central Seattle.

Rehearsals begin the week of September 20. We will have 4 rehearsals per week (about 15 hours per week) until opening. Rehearsals will be held in south Seattle and at the theatre.

Both cast members and all crew must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before rehearsals begin. We’re expecting to require that in-person audience members also be vaccinated, but in all matters of COVID-19 safety we’ll follow the most current public health guidelines.

This production will be performed for a hybrid audience, with tickets sold for both in-person attendance and live-streaming.

Location of Audition

Initial auditions will be held on Zoom. Callbacks will be held in person in central Seattle, location TBA.

Character breakdown / Project needs
ROSE
Rose is a young woman who works at a candy counter and lives alone in a tiny apartment in south Philadelphia. She is desperate for love and desperately afraid of it too. Rose is damaged, vulnerable and highly imaginative. She is something like Laura in The Glass Menagerie, but with more of a fighting spirit.
CLIFF
Cliff is a long-haul truck driver from New Jersey looking for a one-night stand during his coast-to-coast run. His job feels like a prison, but he sees no way out of it. He copes by joking and getting high. Underneath, however, he has a very soft heart. Dialect required.
