New Muses Theatre Company is pleased to announce a non-union casting call for the role of Cathie in THE LAST FIVE YEARS by Jason Robert Brown. This production will play in front of a vaccinated-only live audience for 9 performances from September 3-19, 2021. Most rehearsals and all performances for THE LAST FIVE YEARS will be at the Dukesbay Theater in Tacoma. Some early music rehearsals may move to our alternate rehearsal space in Puyallup.

The production will also be filmed and released for on-demand streaming after the end of the live run.

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition for roles in New Muses Theatre Company productions. Information given on age, gender, etc. is specific to the character as originally written; actors need not personally match the character in age, gender-identity, etc. to submit or be considered. All roles are open to actors of any ethnicity.

"Vaccinated" is defined as an individual who has received both doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine and at least 14 days have passed since the individual's final dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Audition requirements

Due to Covid restrictions, we are requesting that all actors interested in this production please submit a 1-2 minute audition via video in lieu of in-person auditions. Video auditions will be accepted until 7pm on Sunday, August 8th. In-person callbacks will be scheduled for Monday, August 9th in Tacoma. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on August 12th. To audition: 1. Film yourself performing a verse and chorus, approximately 32 bars, of a contemporary musical theatre song and upload to an online video service. (Unlisted YouTube videos are preferred.) Please no acapella submissions; if you do not have access to an accompaniment track PianoTrax is a good resource. TikTok duets also work great and will be accepted. 2. Email a headshot and resume to casting@newmuses.com 3.
