Seeking a dynamic choreographer for our Spring musical, Jasper in Deadland, directed by PLU Theatre faculty Tom Smith.

Located in Parkland/South Tacoma, PLU’s Theatre & Dance Department prides itself on our dynamic and challenging curriculum supported by a season of up to 10 productions each year. The Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts houses much of our activities. This amazing facility provides state-of-the-art equipment, cutting-edge technology, inviting student spaces, and professional laboratories.

Job Description

Choreographing a production of the musical Jasper in Deadland. Rehearsals for the production are Sunday through Thursday nights 6:30-9:30pm from February 7-March 13; you will not be called every rehearsal but should be available for a majority of rehearsals. Position includes: *Creating original choreography, teaching and notating dance steps and formations, cleaning dance combinations *Working collaboratively with the Director and Designers to fulfill the vision/concept of the production *Working with Director to integrate stylized movement in scenes *Empowering and motivating cast to perform to the best of their capabilities *Attend all scheduled rehearsals *Work with student assistant choreographer

Required Qualifications

*Extensive dance background in dance, particularly jazz and/or musical theatre *Experience choreographing musicals *Ability to work with college-aged performers with a wide variety of dance backgrounds *Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and work ethic *Superb interpersonal, collaborative, and communication abilities

*Director/Choreographer collaboration will begin in November.

*An assistant choreographer (college student) has been assigned to this production.

*Cast size will be 20.
