Deathtrap auditions in Marysville

Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts

About the project and the company

Red Curtain announces auditions for our upcoming production of “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin, directed by Scott Dittman. Auditions will be held November 15-16, from 6:00-9:00pm. Call backs TBA.

Comfortably ensconced in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a dry spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway smash. Sidney’s plan, devised with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student for co-credit. Or is it? DEATHTRAP provides twists and turns of devilish cleverness and offers hilariously sudden shocks in such abundance that audiences will be spellbound until the very last moment.  Rated PG-13.

Character breakdown / Project needs
Sidney Bruhl
(Male 40’s - 50’s) Any Ethnicity. Classic playwright and leading man, Sidney embodies the archetypes of the older leading man, the eccentric artist, and the sinister but likable hidden villain all in one.
Myra Bruhl
(Female 40’s) Any Ethnicity. A socialite who comes from old money. Myra both embodies the archetypes of the nervous, jittery frail wife, but also has a hint of knowing more than she lets on.
Clifford Anderson
(Male or Non-Binary 20’s – early 30’s) Young handsome lead, country club type. Dash of Oscar Wilde. Strong character, but may be in over their head. Think Marsden meets Christopher Wren.
Helga Ten Dorp
(Female. Age Indeterminate) Psychic. The accent is vaguely Eastern European. Embodies all the psychic and eccentric domestics that litter murder mysteries. Should be over the top. Big characterization is required.
Porter Milgram
(Male or Female. 40+) Attorney for the Bruhl’s. The archetype of the mystery character brought there to give plot exposition. Chance to build out what that means. Every judge, lawyer, and friend you’ve ever seen in a mystery play.
