Emerald Theatre Casting Twelfth Night for Shakespeare in the Garden

Emerald Theatre

About the project and the company

Emerald Theatre is located in South King County, serving Maple Valley/Black Diamond/Covington and surrounding communities.  We have been entertaining audiences for the past 12 years with cabarets, plays, and youth theatre performances.

This summer, Emerald Theatre is excited to partner once again with two amazing garden organizations, Lake Wilderness Arboretum in Maple Valley and Soos Creek Botanical Gardens near Auburn, to present Shakespeare in the Garden:  Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

We welcome both experienced and emerging actors 18+ and no prior Shakespeare acting is required.  BIPOC actors are encouraged to audition.

Emerald Theatre celebrates people of all genders, sexual orientations, race, ethnicities, and abilities. We strive, always, to address and maintain a space that works towards anti-racism and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion).

This project is a reduced version of 12th Night, with an ensemble cast playing multiple parts.  Rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and  Saturdays during the day.  Rehearsals begin last weekend June and run through the first weekend in August.  Tech week will be Mon-Fri.  Performances are August 5, 6, 12, 13.  Since parts are doubled, all actors will be called to all rehearsals.

Some roles have been cast

“Viola is shipwrecked and believes her twin, Sebastian, has drowned.  She disguises as a young man named Cesario, and works for Duke Orsino, who is in love with Olivia (who will not love him back) but is also confused about his feelings for Cesario.  Viola falls for Orsino but cannot tell him as the woman she really is.  Olivia, seeing Viola as Cesario, falls in love with the 'him.'  Olivia's drunken Uncle Toby Belch and his friend Sir Andrew, plot to punish the house steward, Malvolio, because of his snobbish, better than thou attitude toward everyone.   A mixed up comedy of gender identity and social status, all set against the backdrop of Twelfth Night, where anything is allowed to happen.
