Eyes Up High In The Red Wood Tree - Albatross Theatre Lab
Albatross Theatre Lab
About the project and the company
One day staged reading of an original work by Annika Bennett.
Synopsis;
It’s 1964 and Ken’s band of Merry Pranksters take off in a multicolor bus to catch the release of his second, and final, attempt at the Great American Novel. It’s 1968 and Viv battles with the potential suicide – or elaborate prank? – of her larger-than-life husband. It’s also 1989 and 1947, no time and every time. Eyes Up High in the Redwood Tree is a historically INaccurate exploration of the mythical life and times of the original explorer of the synapses, son of the Beats and the father of the hippie movement (and alleged literary burnout) – Ken Kesey. The play also draws inspiration from Neal Cassady & On the Road, from Tom Wolfe & Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, from Kesey’s own Sometimes a Great Notion, and from many of the Merry Pranksters who joined Kesey in the summer of ’64.
