General auditions for all upcoming shows (Fall 2021-Summer 2022)

Seattle Shakespeare Company

About the project and the company

Seattle Shakespeare Company invites video submissions from actors of all identities who reside in our local Puget Sound community who are interested in being considered for all shows being produced in the coming year (Fall 2021-Summer 2022)*.

At Seattle Shakespeare we believe it is important to fully represent our community onstage so that these classic texts can speak to everyone. To do so, we strive to bring together diverse performers working from their full, authentic selves and operating at the top of their craft. As a Seattle-based company, we prioritize the local cultural ecology and local artists in our work.

Pending health & safety approval, we will be rehearsing in person and performing live in our home indoor venue at The Armory, as well as touring to outdoor and educational venues throughout Washington state. We will have all necessary safety measures in place, as well as recording a performance for an additional digital release to address access opportunities.

Seattle Shakespeare Company holds rehearsals during the day, historically between the hours of 10a-6p. We are working to develop an anti-oppressive work schedule and are moving to a 5-day work-week model, expecting to learn more and respond to the specific needs of our community throughout the year. We will offer space to inform us of your access needs on our audition form and pre-contract intake.

Our weekly guaranteed minimum pay varies by contract type (indoor or touring), rehearsal hours, and by union status. All performers are paid as employees and we meet or exceed Seattle minimum hourly wage on all contracts. Below are some examples of pay scale; you are welcome to inquire for further details.

 INDOOR CONTRACTS:
Weekly AEA Pay $562 + Health & Pension (guaranteed minimum, pending contract approval)
Weekly Non-Union Pay $550 + additional hourly pay should weekly call exceed 32 hours.

TOURING CONTRACTS:
Weekly AEA Pay $328 + Health & Pension (guaranteed minimum, pending contract approval)
Summer Weekly Non-Union Pay $300 + additional hourly pay should weekly call exceed 17 hours.
Educational Weekly Non-Union Pay (rehearsals) $251 + additional hourly pay should weekly call exceed 15 hours.

Audition request: Please record a piece of Shakespeare that you connect with and that reveals something about your interest & potential as a performer of classical material. It should be no longer that 1 minute in length.

We will ask you to share your piece as an unlisted YouTube or Vimeo link. We would also like to see a headshot (or other current picture) and resume (or other written account of experience & education)—ideally these would be paired in one file. If you do not have the resources currently available to share these materials in this way, please reach out to us so that we can find another way to receive your work and consider you for upcoming shows.

For this audition we are only accepting submissions from actors living within 200 miles of Seattle. Local Seattle artists are encouraged to audition.

To submit audition materials, please fill out the form at: https://forms.gle/AwboZ1yA3JEwCKuB6

All materials are due by Friday, September 10th.

If you have direct inquiries about our upcoming shows or casting process, please email casting@seattleshakespeare.org — or, if you prefer, you are welcome to reach out to our Diversity Programming Coordinator, Lamar Legend (lamarl@seattleshakespeare.org).

*Please note that due to the continuing restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not formally announcing a season to the public. This will allow us to be more responsive with each production for the shifting conditions and needs of each moment. This may mean shifting any production to a filmed, streamed, or audio performance, or require a full cancellation, to be in accordance with local and state health regulations.
