SYNOPSIS

Sherlock Holmes is dead. Or so it is assumed. The world knows the great detective went over the falls at Reichenbach with his nemesis Professor Moriarty. But as Holmes’ body was never retrieved, a number of frauds, fakes, and charlatans have come forward since to lay claim to his identity, and it falls to Dr. Watson to disprove them. Then a telegram arrives informing Watson that three men, each claiming to be Holmes, have been committed to a remote asylum off the coast of Scotland. Now Watson must discover if one of the mad men is the real Sherlock Holmes.

Other details

CASTING – (6 male-identifying and 1 female-identifying roles) – roles may be cast with actors who do not identify as the same gender as the character but because of the constraints of the story must be willing to perform the role as the character’s gender is written.

The following roles are minor and will most likely be played by the actors playing the below-named roles in some creative doubling and disguise:

SIGNOR FONSECA – A jealous Italian man with a thick accent and a curly black moustache. He is a performer at the masque ball (masked)

THE CLIENT – A sinister man who approaches The Woman with a proposition to steal a document from Signor Fonseca (masked)

THE WOMAN – A beautiful and mysterious woman at the masque ball, helps Client steal a document from Fonseca.

THE INSPECTOR – Once a comrade of Sherlock’s, he is the one who inspects the incident at the masque ball. Has very prominent black muttonchops.

MORIARTY – Sherlock’s nemesis and suspect at the incident at Reichenbach Falls. He is an older man with a dark and quizzical personality.

Audition requirements

ALL ACTORS MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED (TWO WEEKS BEYOND THEIR FINAL DOSE, NOT INCLUDING BOOSTERS) BY CALLBACKS Monologue: Please prepare a two-minute modern/contemporary dramatic monologue (from a published play, novel, or movie script) that shows off heightened emotion, mystery, intrigue, revelation, or danger. Pieces from other Sherlock-based plays or novels are welcomed (i.e. if you are interested in playing the infamous Sherlock or Watson, bring him into the room). British Accents: Please be ready to demonstrate your best British Accent. It can be part of your monologue, or you can prepare a short sentence or two in British dialect. Headshot and Resume: Please bring one copy.
