Empowering local Latin@ artists to create, produce and promote professional theater in English, Spanish, bilingual and Spanglish. Providing a voice for Latino and Latina artists as well as communities by sharing culturally and socially relevant stories through our innovative programming, workshops, and initiatives.

Our Philosophy

Founded in 2010, eSe Teatro honors self-definition and inclusion, striving to represent everyone within our Latinidad and beyond. Our affiliated artists range from immigrants to U.S. born, Spanish-speaking and non Spanish-speaking, representing cultures and heritages from all over The Americas and Caribbean.

About the play

James, an Argentine veteran of the Malvinas/Falklands War, wakes one morning to a big surprise in his living room: two big black bags containing ten million dollars. Determined to turn his life around, James embarks on an adventure from Seattle to South America. But is he willing to face the ghosts of his past in order to transform his future?
Based on an overlooked but deeply significant moment in Latin American history, this new fast-paced drama by Julieta Vitullo draws on music, movement, and magical realism to craft a universal story about the devastating effects of violence and the long and winding road to healing and redemption.

Sept 11-13: load in, focusing and cueing — Actors may be called on Sept 12

Sept 14, 16 & 17: actors rehearsals in space

Sept 18-19: cue to cue, full runs with tech & notes

Characters & Roles

JAMES, 43 years old. A veteran of the Malvinas/Falklands War. An Argentine of Irish descent.

HENRY, James’s alter ego. Same age as James but looks twenty-five years younger

CHORUS 1, 18-19 years old. Plays roles of Argentine Private Ramón, Charles Darwin, Postman, Gaucho

CHORUS 2, anywhere between 20 and 60. Plays roles of Argentine Sergeant, Mexican Police, French
Corsair and Meany Major.

CHORUS 3, 50-60 years old. Plays roles of Molly, James’s Irish Grandma, Witch and Chamana.

CHORUS 4, 30-40 years old. Plays roles of Elisa (James’s wife) and Boring School Teacher.

CHORUS 5, young. Plays Little Rose (James’s daughter), Drunken General, Young
Grandmother, Warrah Wolf, Argentine Private Felipe, British soldier, Naughty Knight and Pikachu
(Chorus 1-5 may also play other roles as needed.)

March 8 6-10pm auditions — PLEASE NOTE: as of Monday 6/3 WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF AUDITION TIME SLOTS EARLIER IN THE EVENING BUT HAVE SOME SPOTS AT 9PM

Pay:

Actors receive a $800 stipend ($4oo for rehearsals and $400 for performances)

Designers receive a $600 stipend (materials budget is separate)

Stage Manager receives a $1500 stipend

Set Builder’s stipend will be determined once we have a design

Marketing Coordinator $600

Board operator receives a $200 stipend and must attend rehearsals during tech week and be able to all work all performances
