Event Details

The steering committee for Medicine Ball: Playwrights v. Poets are seeking actors to audition for two events this year. This event is a friendly competition between playwrights and poets in which writers are asked compose a script or poem based on a common prompt. Actors perform the results and the audience votes on the winning team of writers.

We are planning two events for the upcoming year.

The first is a reading version slated for June 6th from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at  the Stage One Theatre. The theme for this will be Pride as part of Pride Month. This event will require minimum rehearsal time.

The second will be held over a weekend October 30th and 31st at the Ethnic Cultural Center. The theme will be Halloween focused. It will also be a fully staged version of the event. This event will require a commitment to several hours of rehearsal time in addition to tech and performance.

We are specifically inviting performers who identify as people of color, the LGTBQAA+ community, persons with disabilities, and members of other historically underrepresented groups in the art community to audition.

Please prepare one monologue and one poem for your audition materials that cumulatively do not exceed 5-minutes in length. We recommend a more contemporary poem rather than a Shakespearian sonnet.

Interested performers, should email their headshot and resume to medicineball@yahoo.com to reserve a spot in the audition process.
