About the project and the company
Puget Sound Co. is an 8-member vocal ensemble founded in Seattle in October 2018. We specialize in unaccompanied musical performance, using only our voices to cover popular artists from The Beatles to Fleetwood Mac to Ariana Grande and more.
Job Description
We seek an experienced music director to lead our close harmony a cappella group. Prior close harmony conducting / direction experience is strongly preferred. Though it is not required, the Music Director would ideally perform with Puget Sound Company. PSC seeks experienced vocalists with impeccable blend and intonation, and strong individual soloist abilities.
Required Qualifications
As Music Director, you will select repertoire (in collaboration with other group members), set a rehearsal & performance calendar, and lead effective rehearsals. You will use your excellent ear to provide thoughtful, concise feedback to enhance the group’s ability to perform their chosen repertoire. During performances, you will conduct the group. Whether in rehearsals or performance, you will lead with a professionalism and confidence that inspires and spreads joy. It is strongly preferred that you are able to read music and play piano. REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: We expect all performers to attend rehearsals. PSC typically rehearses on a weekly basis in a conventional, non-virtual format on Wednesday nights from 7-9pm during our full rehearsal season. Rehearsals can increase in frequency, especially during tech/performances weeks and in the lead-up to the busy holiday performance season. We expect performers to prepare new music ahead of rehearsals and we provide sheet music and learning tracks to facilitate the various ways performers learn. PSC performs frequently (approx. every 6 weeks) at venues across the Puget Sound region throughout the year, with performance dates/times negotiated beforehand with event organizers and PSC. We recommend that performers maintain flexible schedules during the very busy holiday season. PERFORMANCE HONORARIA PSC maintains high standards for our musical product and professionalism. As such, we strive to compensate performers in recognition of their time and talent on a performance-by-performance basis, as practicable. REQUESTED SUBMISSION MATERIALS: Please fill out the Audition Form (below), and use the upload features to include a performance resume (if you have one, otherwise just a summary of your performance experience) and a 30-to-60-second a cappella video clip that showcases your vocal range, performance personality, and passion for your craft. The form may be found here. In addition, please also fill out the Music Director Audition Form here.
