Auditions for Poster Girls - A staged reading of a new screenplay

About the project and the company

Poster Girls is a fictionalized screenplay about Seattle’s Rosie the Riveters of WWII, many of whom were black women.  It shows their struggles to prove themselves in a man’s world, deal with 1940’s racism, and face the challenges to their personal lives. There are multiple roles for men and women, most of which are doubled. Characters include a hooker trying to go straight, a preacher’s wife, a pregnant girl, a frowning shipyard boss with a grim secret, a saboteur, Nazi Bund members, some Hollywood stars, a sweet girl in love with a fun-loving tough guy, a mousie girl, boisterous girls, and more. Think A League of Their Own (1992) and the classic Westward the Women (1951). Bonding, friction, danger, a shipbuilding challenge–We Can Do It!

I have scheduled four staged readings at different Seattle libraries between Jan and June 2020. I don’t expect everyone to be able to make all four readings, so I want to have a pool of actors, added to as necessary.
