Seattle Shakespeare Company - Romeo and Juliet

Seattle Shakespeare Company

About the project and the company

Seattle Shakespeare Company invites in-person auditions from actors of all identities who reside in our local Puget Sound community who are interested in being considered for ROMEO & JULIET, for our 23-24 Indoor Season.

Romeo & Juliet

By William Shakespeare

Directed by George Mount

1st Rehearsal: Approx. March 26th, 2024

Run: April 26th-May 19th, 2024

At Seattle Shakespeare we believe it is important to fully represent our community onstage so that these classic texts can speak to everyone. To do so, we strive to bring together diverse performers working from their full, authentic selves and operating at the top of their craft. As a Seattle-based company, we prioritize the local cultural ecology and local artists in our work.

About the production from the Director:

“With so many interpretations out there on this comic romance-turned-tragic, this production  is going to really focus on the stresses teenagers experience on a daily basis. Pressure from peers, parents, societal expectations, sex, changing bodies, childhood/adulthood transitions, lack of autonomy, self-identity, violence. Romeo and Juliet die because they are young. And if society kills its young people, it kills its future.”

-George Mount

Location of Audition

Auditions will be held June 22nd, between 11am-7pm at TPS, on the 4th floor Seattle Center, Armory Building.

Audition requirements

For these auditions we will ask you to prepare one of the sides provided. You are not required to memorize this monologue (though you may if that is your preference), the expectation is that you will be familiar and ready to “rehearse” with it. We welcome actors of any identity to audition for any role. Characters will retain their textually-assigned gender. We are seeking actors who are comfortable with movement and combat for this show. Some roles are doubled.
