About the project and the company

Valley Center Stage is seeking an actor for an upcoming production of I and You by Lauren Gunderson.
Play Synopsis: Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn’t been to school in months. One afternoon, classmate Anthony arrives unexpectedly with a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass and an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Through this seemingly mundane poetry project, the two open up to each other and reveal their secrets. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love and the strange beauty of human connectedness.

Rehearsal Dates: January 3-February 2, 2023. Exact dates to be determined after casting completed.

Performance Dates: February 3-19, 2023.

Deadline: 12/20/22. Attendance at callbacks on 12/13/22, 6:00pm appreciated.

CASTING NOTE (PER THE PLAYWRIGHT): The race of each character can be altered. The only requirement is that the characters not be the SAME race.

Play includes scenes of intimacy, including a kiss.

Not seeking any actors for the role of Caroline.

Character breakdown / Project needs
Anthony (male)
ANTHONY, a male, 17. He is neat, poised, mature for his age. African-American. He's an "A" student, a team player, a nice guy. He's not really great around girls. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something (jazz music) he is all in. Throughout the whole play he looks at Caroline like he's trying to figure her out. Like he really needs to know who she is.
