About the project and the company
Noveltease Theatre is Seattle’s premier literary burlesque company. We create unique, dance-driven adaptations of classic works of literature from queer, feminist, anti-racist, and sex positive viewpoints that reclaim and rework the canon for contemporary audiences.
Our fall production is A Metamodern Prometheus, a multi-textual exploration of the creation of Frankenstein, stitched together with scenes from the novel itself. The production runs for one weekend only (Oct 5-7) at Theatre Off Jackson. Load in is Sunday, Oct 1. Load out is Sunday, Oct 8.
Job Description
We are seeking a scenic/props designer to create two distinct but unified worlds: a parlor in Geneva in 1816 and various settings in which the novel of Frankenstein takes place. Because this is a single weekend production in which dance is the primary focus, we seek a flexible design with ample open floor space that can be loaded in and out quickly. We anticipate that properties used by the actors in dance pieces will be incorporated into the scenic design in creative but surprising ways.
Required Qualifications
Some previous scenic design experience. We are excited to work with artists who are just beginning their professional careers!
