Shakespeare Equity Engagement Program
Seattle Shakespeare Company
About the project and the company
Shakespeare Equity Engagement (SEE) is Seattle Shakespeare Company’s program dedicated to fostering healthy relationships with underserved populations within the local Seattle artistic community. It seeks to heal and undo systemic trauma through artistic skill building, discussion groups and forums, and mentorship while connecting historically neglected groups to professional career opportunities.
For the First Phase of SEE, Seattle Shakespeare invites local actors of color, from ALL artistic backgrounds and skill sets to participate in “(Re)Introduction to Shakespeare Performance” trainings on Monday, March 23, 2020, and Monday, April 6, 2020, as well as a third training to deepen scene work on Monday, May 11, 2020.
While all paid positions are filled, we are offering room to observe for each workshop, creating a larger opportunity for discussion and community participation, as well as learning through watching & listening.
Each workshop will offer observers:
- Participation in discussion segments of the session.
- An opportunity to meet the directors of the upcoming Wooden O and Mainstage productions.
- 5 hours of exposure to classical training from POC Teaching Artists that will include Lamar Legend, Rosa Joshi, and Valerie Curtis-Newton.
