About the project and the company
Red Curtain announces auditions for our upcoming production of Qui Nguyen’s play, She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition, to be produced at the Red Curtain Arts Center in Marysville, January 14-30, 2022.
The story follows a popular teen girl, Agnes, whose younger sister, Tilly, has recently died. In an attempt to get to know who her sister was, she dives into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, which was a passion and refuge of sorts for Tilly.
All roles are open, and actors who identify as BIPOC and/or part of the LGBTQI+ community are encouraged to apply.

Audition requirements
Please prepare a monologue, no longer than two minutes, from a modern play. Actors will also be asked to do some movement exercises with the fight choreographer.

Character breakdown / Project needs
AGNES (17 F)
Agnes is your typical popular teen. She’s a senior in high school and a cheerleader. She and her younger sister, Tilly, grew apart in recent years, and now Agnes is on a quest to discover her sister.
TILLY (15 F)
Agnes’ younger sister and a total sword & sorcery nerd. She loves all things D&D and has a reputation in the local gaming community as one of the greats, even though she’s only fifteen years old.
CHUCK (15-16 M)
A freshman at the local high school, he also works at the local gaming store, and serves as the Dungeon Master for Tilly’s adventures. He describes himself as being a bit husky, but he has a lot of confidence.
MILES (17-18 M)
Agnes’ boyfriend and quarterback of the high school football team. He seems like the cliché jock, but he actually cares about Agnes and Tilly a lot. He’s just not good at expressing himself.
KALIOPE/KELLY (16-18 F)
In-game, Kaliope is a Dark Elf and member of Tilly’s campaign. In real life, Kelly is Ronnie’s sister, and has cerebral palsy.
LILITH/LILLY (15-17 F)
Lilly is one of Tilly’s closest friend, and they secretly like each other…like, “like” like. Lilith is a She-Devil and fierce warrior. She’s also very forthcoming with her sexuality, which she uses as a weapon. Lilith does not like Agnes at all.
ORCUS/RONNIE (16-19 M)
Ronnie’s in-game persona is the demon, Orcus. He loves watching “Friends” on TV, being super-suave, and kicking butt. Ronnie has a lot of the same traits, but is also socially awkward.
VERA (15-16 F)
Agnes’ best friend who works at the mall. She is a cheerleader, but not at all typical: she’s goth, extremely sarcastic and protective of Agnes. She doesn’t like Miles.
NARRATOR (any age/gender)
A mysterious voice
GABBI/EVIL GABBI (15-17 F)
Gabbi and Tina are underclassmen and on the JV cheer squad. They are relentless bullies to Tilly and her friends. In the game, they are evil succubi cheerleaders who try to murder Agnes and her team.
TINA/EVIL TINA (15-17F)
Gabbi and Tina are underclassmen and on the JV cheer squad. They are relentless bullies to Tilly and her friends. In the game, they are evil succubi cheerleaders who try to murder Agnes and her team.
STEVE (15-16 M)
Steve appears throughout the play as a nerdy freshman gamer, and as the hapless wizard, Steve. He’s prone to quick deaths, getting his arms ripped off and throat torn out, among other gruesome deaths.
FARRAH THE FAERIE (any)
Wee but mighty, Farrah is one of the three “bosses” Agnes’ party has to overcome, and she is a heck of a warrior.
