Sound & Fury - An Improvised Shakespeareance
CSz Seattle - Home of ComedySportz
About the project and the company
Sound & Fury: An Improvised Shakespeareance, a long-form improvised play in the style of William Shakespeare, is currently seeking talented improvisers to join our merry band of players!
Now entering its third year at CSz Seattle, Sound & Fury pays tribute to the Bard’s mixed-up comedies and messed up tragedies with a madcap mash-up of modern madness and Elizabethan elegance. High-brow pathos for the box seats, and low-brow punchlines for the groundlings.
Yes, there will be ‘thee’s and ‘thou’s, there will be (some) iambic pentameter; but mostly there will be good old-fashioned narrative improv as the man himself might have done it. Probably. Who knows, he’s dead.
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will take place at the Atlas Theater (3509 Fremont Ave N, Seattle WA 98103). Unfortunately, the space is not wheelchair accessible.
PRE-AUDITION WORKSHOP
For those who’d like a little Shakes-prov warm-up prior to auditions, there will be an open workshop at the Atlas Theater on Saturday, April 1 from Noon-2pm, playing with the same foundational skills that we’ll be looking for at auditions. Cost for the workshop is pay-what-you-can (so it’s free if you want it to be).
AUDITIONS
Saturday, April 15, noon-2pm
REHEARSALS
Wednesdays, April 26 – June 14, 7-9pm
PERFORMANCES
June 17, 23, 24, 30 @ 9:30pm
July 15, 22, 28, 29 @ 9:30pm
CONTENT RATING
All CSz late shows are 21+ for both audience members and cast. Violence and romance, concurrent and consecutive, are common. Anything that happens in Shakespeare can happen in our shows, and many things he never dreamt of too.
COMPENSATION
The regular run is unpaid. Any outdoor shows (TBD) collect donations to be split among the cast.
Location of Audition
Atlas Theater, 3509 Fremont Ave N, Seattle WA 98103
Audition requirements
Auditions will consist of improvised scenes in modern english. This is a difficult style to improvise in and a very short rehearsal period. As such, experienced improvisers are preferred, but anyone who thinks they’re up for it is welcome to audition. Those unfamiliar with Shakespeare or Elizabethan English should be ready to do some homework outside of rehearsals. Auditionees should be available for ALL rehearsals and most performances. Must be at least 21 years old.
