About the project and the company

In a modern take on this Shakespeare classic, Katherine Minola faces criticism and backlash from their family and neighbors because they do not adhere to the “traditional male view of femininity” and is know as the Shrew. Enter Petruchio, the “traditional male”, whose cocky nature leads him to believe he is the man who can make a traditional woman out of Katherine. Will he tame Katherine or will they tame him?

Auditions are in August, but the project does not begin rehearsals until December 10th, 2019.

Audition requirements

Please prepare a 2 minute comedic Shakespeare monologue or slam poem. (As well as, it should be known even though auditions are in August, we will not start the rehearsal process until December 10th, 2019)

Character breakdown / Project needs

We are encouraging actors of all ethnicities and genders to audition. We are considering all ethnicities for all roles

Christopher Sly

Male, 40-late 50s'. A ego-driven, damanding, entitlted man who believes he is charming, when really he's just an ass.

Vincentio

Male or Female, late 30's-early 50's. A very loving parent but incredibly absent minded

Biondello

Male, Female, or Afab Non-Binary, late teens-mid 20's. A jovial stoner who lives in their own world and takes everything one joint at a time. Humorous and loveable.

Tranio

Male, Trans Male, or Female, mid teens-late teens. The brains of the operation, the dry-humoured one, and best friends with Lucentio.

Grumio

Male or Trans Male, mid teens. Sibling to Petruchio, a sweet natured smart ass

Baptista

Male, late 40's-late 50's. A protective and loving, single parent to Kate and Bianca. Wants nothing but the best for his children but can be a bit naive.

Katherine

Afab Non-binary or Female, mid 20's-early 30's. A strong, capable, take-no-shit woman/person. Confident, striking, and filled with sass and awesome comebacks.

Bianca

Female, mid teens-late teens. Sister to Katherine, young and wanting to break free from her sheltered home to experience more of life and relationships.

Petruchio

Male, late teens-mid 20's. Suitor to Katherine. Very shallow and a bit controlling. Dark-humored, full of sarcasm, and believes he can tame Kate and win her/them over.

Gremio

Male, late 20's-mid 30's. Creepily older suitor to Bianca. A guy that lives in his college glory days and believes he's mighty and beautiful.

Hortensio

Male, late teens-mid 20's. Suitor to Bianca. Adorable, charming, but has motives that are not so adorable and cute.

Lucentio

Female or Male, late teens. Deeply in lust with Bianca. Young, happy-go-lucky, an extroverted introvert.

A Pedant

Any gender/non-gendered folks, late 30's-early 50's.

Host

Female or Trans Woman, late 30's-mid 40's. Assertive, confident, will drink you under the table and kick your butt! Takes no crap, direct, and blunt.

The Lord

Male or Trans Male, early 20's-early 30's. Charming, witty, and charismatic.

Page

Male or Trans Male, mid teens. Friend to the Lord, will also play Grumio, possibility of heavy makeup for this role.

Nic

Any gender/non-gendered folks mid 30's-early 50's. Assistant to the lord (this character will replace the traditional roles of the First and Second Huntsman and will also be doubled with Pedant)
