MAXINE, a young female high school graduate, she is an aspiring actor/waitress living with her parents in New York City. She is serious about an acting career and works hard at it. She has intellectual curiosity. She and SAMANTHA have somewhat drifted apart due to SAMANTHA going away to college. They are reconnecting at summer’s end. MAXINE is grappling with moral dilemma created by the tumultuous times of the 1960’s. PETE, a young male college student. He is bright and curious. He has lived a sheltered, traditional American small-town life, attending Catholic school through 12th grade. He has little dating experience and has never been in love. JAMES, a young male college student, PETE’S friend – they grew up in the same neighborhood but then were separated by attending different schools. He has lots of experience dating and has been “in love” many times.
