Youth Auditions for Beta Series Production of XY

Village Theatre

About the project and the company

Village Theatre is holding youth auditions for the boy/male-identifying role of Christine in our Village Originals Beta Series production of XY on Tuesday, November 5th between 3-6pm.

Show Description:
XY is an original musical that follows Chris, an intersex man navigating his first romantic relationship while he is haunted by his past. On the advice of doctors, Chris’s mother subjects Chris to corrective genital surgery as an infant and raises him as a girl. At 26 years old Chris is a lonely fitness instructor who has transitioned back into being a man. He is estranged from his mother and is haunted by memories of his female eleven-year-old self, Christine. XY is a musical drama about letting go of the past and coming home to the most unfamiliar of places: ourselves.

The most updated script is available via a link below as a resource to families that would like more information and to review the subject before auditioning.

Character Description:
Christine: Age 9-12, played by a male-identifying* age-appropriate actor with an unchanged voice. Rambunctious, with a love for engaging in charismatic and boyish imaginative play, but whose mother censors him and strips him of his personality. Deeply human. Boy soprano with high belt.
*If your child identifies as a boy or masculine leaning you are welcome and encouraged to attend these auditions. If this descriptor is unfamiliar to you please let me know and I’m happy to clarify and provide more details.
