YOUTH VOICES: Playwriting for Solo Performance Workshop - 2024 Student Cohort Application
About the project and the company
In partnership with Macha Theatre Works, Seattle Public Theater’s Education Program is excited to announce the 2024 programming of Youth Voices. This playwriting for solo performance workshop is for teens ages 13-18. This program is funded by Seattle Public Theater and Macha Theatre Works and is free of cost.
Participants go through the process of making a personal story into a theatrical piece and develop an original work. This series includes one-on-one weekly meetings with a professional Seattle Public Theater mentor, several group meetings, guidance throughout the process, a public workshop reading of the final piece and a culminating performance at Seattle Repertory Theater’s Youthfest on June 1st 2024!
Who can apply?:
Any teen ages 13-18! We envision a diverse and multiracial cohort that reflects our Seattle community. In alignment with our mission of serving historically excluded identities and emerging artists; actors of color, actors with disabilities, and queer and trans actors are highly encouraged to apply.

- You do not need to have any experience in the performing arts to apply
- Please be ready to commit to the predetermined schedule
The dates:
Students will gather for an in-person kick-off meeting on January 13th. Following that, students and mentors will meet once a week via zoom from January 15th through March 22nd (with the exception of President’s Day week) Starting Jan 13. During that time, students will also attend in-person workshops on the following dates:
- January 13
- February 10
- March 9
At the end, students will perform in a staged reading of their works. This involves the following:
- March 23rd: Daytime rehearsal
- March 25th: Evening performance
- May 5th 10am – 1pm
- May 12th 10am – 1pm
- May 19th 10am -1pm
- May 26 10am – 1pm
- May 31 6pm-9pm
