Melinda Beck

Melinda Beck’s background is in devised ensemble theatre and solo performance. She works at the Frazier History Museum as a Teaching Artist and Historical Interpreter, creating live performances and programs for museum visitors. She has worked on staff in various capacities with Commonwealth Theatre Center, Kentucky Shakespeare, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and Seattle Shakespeare Company. Recent film work includes “Heartland” and “Perception”. 

In 2018, she served as the Artist in Residence at the Louisville Free Public Library at the South Central Branch, where she generated a solo performance based on the feedback of library patrons and their relationship with technology. Last summer she worked with Kentucky Refugee Ministries “We Create” Festival where she created a 15-minute performance using projection, shadow puppetry and voice over to highlight stories of refugees in Louisville. She is excited to create for them again in 2020, in participation with Mary Shelley Electric Co. (a Kentucky-based puppetry company). 

In 2015, she devised Camerado, I Give You My Hand, using Walt Whitman’s poetry in a performative 3-actor ensemble production. She wrote and performed her solo show Agatha as part of the Slant Culture Theatre Festival, and Single Shots: A Two-Night Festival of Solo Theatre with the Louisville Improvisors. She holds a BFA in Theater (Original Works) from Cornish College of the Arts.
