About the project and the company

The Underground Theater is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of “Brown Bodies on a Blue Earth,” a thought-provoking and powerful exploration of climate change, solidarity, and the human experience.

Seeking five (5) actors for Brown Bodies on a Blue Earth, Directed by Brodrick Ryans, a play by Cris Eli Blak. $200/week stipend offered.

We are seeking a diverse cast of actors to bring this compelling story to life. People of Color are strongly encouraged to apply

REED​ ​[20 to 39 years old, Black male​]

• Reed represents an individual…who we’ve all been at one time; he hides hurt; shields hurt; shuts down; feels every pain/pleasure fully; wants the end to come.

CLOVER​ ​[​20 to 39 years old, Black, Hispanic female]

• Clover does her best to appear optimistic; internally/physically exhausted; symbolized as a “wall of flowers”; wants to be seen; wants community (join me); has a collaborative spirit (let’s be productive).

SIMEON ​[​20 to 29 years old, Hispanic male​]

• Simeon possesses a kid-like spirit; says things like “lemme tell you about my ex”; is optimistic; a boy-next -door; wants connection; wants to be heard.

DEEJAY FLO-SISTER ​[30 to 49 years old, African, Black female​]

• Deejay Flo-Sister represents strong women of color; being caretaker; has the weight of the world on her shoulders; lacks confidence; wants to give people hope; wants a semblance of peace; wants to see her sister again; wants to fulfill this promise to herself/others.

ZACHARIAH ​[​20 to 39 years old, Black, Hispanic male​]

• Zachariah doesn’t know who he is…ambivalent; thinks that “maybe my blessing is forgetting”; nothing is certain.

SWING/ASM ​[​20 to 39 years old, Black/Hispanic male/female​]

• Understudies all roles to fill in when needed and will act as a backstage assistant stage manager.

Brown Bodies on a Blue Earth navigates the lives of five (5) individuals In a distant, or not so distant, future where the sun has gotten dangerously close to Earth, all of the rich (and mostly white) people load into spaceships and relocate to the moon, leaving the poor (and mostly minority) people on Earth to literally burn. As the heat increases and the chances of survival shrink, a group of individuals must face their regrets, loss, dreams, personal traumas and pains.

Brown Bodies on a Blue Earth is scheduled to run in the Spring from April 13th to May 5th, 2024.
