Props Designer for Hedda Gabler

About the project and the company

General Gabler’s Theatre was founded in Seattle by Helen T. Mariam and Natalie Schmidt. We primarily produce the plays of Henrik Ibsen using non-normative casting that prioritizes women and non-binary actors. Our first production, Hedda Gabler, will go up at West of Lenin in August 2023.

We are seeking a Props Designer to join our production team ASAP. Pre-production starts in early May.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Mask Requirement:
All cast members, designers, and crew must be fully vaccinated to participate in this production. Fully vaccinated includes at least one booster shot.  

Proof of vaccination is required by first pre-production meeting. 

All rehearsals will be masked.

Important Dates:

Pre-production: May 2023

Rehearsals: Sunday, May 28, 2023 – Thursday, June 15, 2023 AND Sunday, July 2, 2023 – Thursday, July 27, 2023. Note: There is a rehearsal break between June 15 and July 2.

Tech: Sunday, July 30, 2023 – Thursday, August 3, 2023

Performances: Friday, August 4, 2023; Saturday, August 5, 2023; Sunday, August 6, 2023 (matinee); Thursday, August 10, 2023; Friday, August 11, 2023; and Saturday, August 12, 2023  

Job Description

The Props Designer will work with the director to create a vision for the props design based on the style, genre, and period of the production; design, build, gather necessary props for the production of the show; create props run sheet; facilitate the move, organization, and labeling of props as necessary and in coordination with the stage manager; and provide the rehearsal with some rehearsal props as necessary.

Required Qualifications

Familiarity with the props design process. Experience designing props preferred.
