Job Description

TERMS Duration: Seattle Rep’s 2024/25 Season runs August 2024 – June 2025. Apprenticeship contract start/end dates will vary by department. Lighting Design, Production Management, Directing/Artistic Programs (2 Positions): Full-time (40 hours per week) with some sabbatical time. Weekly hours will vary based on the needs of each production, but a minimum of 32 hours per week can be expected. In addition, a limited amount of overtime will be available during tech weeks. Stage Management (2 Positions): Full-time (40 hours per week) between August 2024 – June 2025. Days will vary with some sabbatical time. Weekly hours will vary based on the needs of each production and some overtime may be available during some rehearsal and tech weeks. Compensation: All Apprenticeships pay $19.97/hour. Apprentices will receive paid accrued sick time, holidays, personal days, and ORCA/parking benefit. Apprentices should expect to work on-site. Some work from home may be offered. In addition to hands-on training in their chosen field, Apprentices have the opportunity to participate in: - Cohort activities to build relationships within the Apprentice class. This can range from seeing and discussing shows within the Seattle community, luncheons with our Seattle Rep Organization (SRO), monthly check-ins with coordinators, and other activities as they arise. Examples of past outings include: - Trips to the Seattle Aquarium, Pike Place Market, Chihuly Glass Museum, Museum of Pop Culture, and other iconic Seattle destinations Seeing theater productions and performances, like Cambodian Rock Band at ACT Theatre, Beetlejuice at the Paramount Theater, X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X at Seattle Opera, The Seasons' Cannon at Pacific Northwest Ballet Workshops with industry professionals to gain an overview of how departments collaborate at the regional theater level. These workshops also introduce Apprentices to the Seattle theater scene and beyond to gain an understanding of how different-sized organizations work. Past seminars and guests artists featured include professionals from The Kennedy Center, The David Geffen School of Drama, Brown University, The O'Neill Center, and our very own Seattle Rep staff Visit our PATP FAQ for more information. APPRENTICESHIP OPTIONSAPPLICATIONS Applications for the 2024/25 PATP open on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The 2024/25 PATP application deadline is Monday, May 27, 2024 at 4 p.m. PST. Directing/Artistic Programs (2 Positions) The Directing/Artistic Programs Apprenticeship (2 positions available) provides an opportunity to assist leading directors in the field and be part of the day-to-day life of a regional theater. Time is split between the rehearsal room and administrative experiences, making it a unique and holistic opportunity for emerging directors interested in artistic administration and leadership along with casting and new play development. Lighting Design The Lighting Design Apprentice will focus on two main areas: developing the practical skills of an Assistant Lighting Designer—VW Drafting and paperwork, communicating with vendors, working with a union stage crew, pre-production and planning, etc.—and developing the Apprentice's design skill set through a series of theoretical design projects including research methods, drawing, storyboarding, model building, etc. Stage Management (2 Positions) The Stage Management Apprentices (2 positions available) will serve as a member of the stage management team on two or three productions throughout the season. The scope of the apprenticeship will include assisting the Stage Manager/Assistant Stage Manager in all aspects of the show process, from prep work and rehearsals to technical rehearsals onstage, to the running of performances. Production Management The Production Management Apprentice will assist the Artistic Producer, Director of Production, Assistant Director of Production, Company Manager, Production Contracts Manager, and Production Finance Associate. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in supporting the production process for Seattle Rep shows from start to finish, liaising and interfacing with artists and making them feel welcome and supported at our theater, and producing new works along with the work that goes on our stage.
