TIARA’S HAT PARADE
By Kelly Starling Lyons

Adapted by Shermona Mitchell
Directed by Jasmine Lomax
Assembly performances in Washington State School, Libraries, and Community Centers

Touring January 30 – April 7, 2023

“Tiara’s momma has a gift for making hats. Ladies come from all over to visit her studio and try on her creations. She makes fancy hats for church, dazzling hats for special occasions, and majestic hats to help you stand tall and proud! But when Momma has to close down the business and set her dreams aside, Tiara can see how sad she is. Can Tiara help Momma understand how much her hats mean to the community and bring back the magic?”

There will be a cast of three actors and one understudy for all roles. The cast will be supported by a stage manager during rehearsal and the run of the tour. Our assembly shows are roughly 35-40 minutes in length and travel with a sound system, pipe and drape, props and costumes in our Book-It van.

BOOK-IT is seeking three Black/African American performers for the following roles:

TIARA/ENSEMBLE – Bright, imaginative, and creative daughter. Graceful and bold in physical movement. Female/Non-binary.

Tiara is a child, but will be cast with an adult actor.

MOMMA/ENSEMBLE – Proud, Community oriented, and lively. Big personality and a huge heart. Female/Non-binary.

DADDY/ENSEMBLE – Resourceful, hardworking, gentle, and encouraging. Willing to do anything to take care of the family. Female/Non-binary.
