About the project and the company

THE JUNK DRAWER — 3/19 – 4/18

Latitude Theatre is seeking five (5) actors to participate in the workshopping of a newly translated script.  Participants in the workshop will be introduced to and trained in Christopher Kidder-Mostrom’s Reclaiming the Essence workshopping method for translated works.  The method combines physical acting with text analysis and some improvisational skills.  Workshop participants will receive a $250 stipend for participation, and right of first refusal to play their part when the final script is presented in a public staged reading in August 2024 (reading contract/stipend is separate from workshop contract/stipend).

The Play
Originally a play entitled Cajon de Sastre by Enrique Zumel, this script is a literary translation from Castilian Spanish into English by Christopher Kidder-Mostrom entitled The Junk Drawer.  First performed in Spain in 1868, the piece takes place in a tinker’s fix-it shop on the first floor of an otherwise residential building.  A comedic farce about love lost, love found, found-out lovers, and other absurd situations (including a mysterious object and a duel at twenty paces!).

Location of Audition

There are no physical auditions. Just submissions via email. Please include headshot, resume, and any random information that you'd like us to know. We will contact people to set up Zoom interviews.

Other details

This is an English Language workshop. All workshopping activities will be done in English, and the final work will be in English. Ability to speak Spanish is not required for this workshop.

If you are interested in any of the parts, but do not fit into the declared age range, please feel free to submit anyway.
