David L. Mayer

A Freehold-trained veteran of community productions for more than a dozen years, I take every character and performance as a new class to better explore my craft, having enjoyed lead and character roles. I gain only by first serving the writer, director, my fellow actors and my audience. Having worked with Shakespeareans, Hagen-followers and more, I’ve found no one school serves all needs, and I treasure the opportunity to learn from new directors, teachers and actors, always adding to my toolbox. Success for me is the creation of truly engaging characters and relationships that draw the audience in, letting each have their own theatre experience. Homework, highly focused energy give and take, bold choices that serve the text, an ability to play and to ground are hallmarks of my preparation.

Shakespeare always feels like home to me, but modern, ensemble productions are numbered among my favorite experiences, as well. And who can resist a lush period piece?

I am happy to work with accents and can currently offer RP, Cockney, Irish, Scottish, Southeastern US, multiple New York City, German and Russian accents. I also play guitar and sing, though my acting emphasis is not in musicals.
