Biography
As Technical Director: Hjalmer retired as the Technical Director of the Northshore Performing Arts Center on June 30, 2015. As Professional Director: He is the Artistic Director for the Woodinville Repertory Theatre . He has directed for Second Story Theatre and the Phoenix Theatre. At the Woodinville Repertory Theatre, he has directed over 17 productions. Recently directed The Foreigner and the sellouts of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap in March 2019, Currently he is auditioning for Neil Simon's Chapter Two at the end of June 2019. As Drama Educator: Following nine years as a drama instructor at Inglemoor High School in Bothell, Hjalmer began the Woodinville High School drama program when the school opened in 1983 and left in 2006. He was one of the first recipients of the Washington Excellence in Education Award and the Christa McAuliffe Award in 1987 for his contributions to his students and the community. He has directed over 200 productions at Woodinville High School. Some of his favorite were "Death of a Salesman, "Look Homeward Angel", "The Crucible" and "Rumors". His most memorable musicals were: "Kiss Me Kate, "West Side Story", Guys and Dolls" and "Fiddler On The Roof", "Oklahoma!" December 2015 he came back to Woodinville High School and directed "Inspecting Carol". Education: He obtained his BA degree from the University of Washington in theatre production .He also earned his fifth year teaching credentials at Western University, where he taught a summer training course for high school drama teachers. A member of state and national theatre organizations beginning in 1975, Mr. Anderson served as President of the Washington Association of Theatre Artists, Governor of Region Nine (Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho) for the Secondary School Theatre Association, and Director of the Educational Theatre Association for Washington State. Hjalmer was inducted into the Washington State Thespian Society Hall of Fame in 2008.
