My Sheltering Umbrella (July 4, 2024, 7:30PM): When it rained, my older siblings would head to school first, taking all the umbrellas from home with them. As a result, I had to go to school without an umbrella. My mom would wrap a scarf around my head, but I was so angry that I would throw it off as soon as I left the house. Why was there always a shortage of umbrellas in our house? Why couldn’t my dad just buy one?

My father fled from North Korea to Jeju Island. Although he lived in Jeju, he always hoped to settle back in his hometown. Every time the moving season came, we had to move. Did we lose the umbrellas during those moves?
