Run-of-Show Stage Manager for “Men on Boats”

Expires: July 28, 2024

Job Description

inD Theatre is seeking a Run-of-Show Stage Manager for the production of MEN ON BOATS by Jaclyn Backhaus and directed by Talena Laine, opening October 11, 2024 at Rolling Bay Hall on Bainbridge Island.

Synopsis: Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. MEN ON BOATS is the true(ish) history of an 1869 expedition, when a one-armed captain and a crew of insane yet loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River.

It's awesome.

A note on casting for this particular project, as indicated by the playwright: The characters in MEN ON BOATS were historically cisgender white males. The cast should be made up entirely of people who are not. I'm talking about racially diverse actors who are female identifying, trans-identifying, genderfluid, and/or non-gender conforming.

The Run-of-Show Stage Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the production of MEN ON BOATS runs smoothly from load-in/tech to final curtain call. They will facilitate communication across all creative and technical departments; act as a right hand to the director and assistant director; oversee sets, props, lights, and sound; and call all technical cues during performances. They will operate the lighting and sound cue equipment. The Run-of-Show Stage Manager will assist the director during tech and dress rehearsals; and hold responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the production per the director’s vision after the show opens.

Location: Rolling Bay Hall, 10598 NE Valley Rd, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Tech week is Saturday, Oct. 5 to Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. Opens Friday, October 11, 2024 and Closes Sunday, October 27, 2024 with strike/load-out that same day.

Provide tactical and organizational support to the director, actors, and production team throughout tech week and the run-of-show process: Attend all production meetings and all agreed upon technical and dress rehearsals, and performances.

Schedule and run tech and dress rehearsals: Attend all tech and dress rehearsals, take notes and send rehearsal reports to all necessary theatre staff and designers following each rehearsal. Record the director's decisions about blocking and notes for the actors.

Maintain a production script (prompt book) developed by the assistant director during the regular rehearsal period with notes on the technical and artistic operations of the production.

Maintain the integrity of the production per the director’s vision after opening: Supervise pres-how activities such as technical and safety checks. Provide notes to performers, conduct warm-ups and rehearse any necessary fight or intimacy calls. Ensure that cast and crew are present and ready for curtain.

Attend performances and call the show: Call cues per the prompt book, and operate lighting, sound, and any other technical elements during performances. Send a performance report to all necessary production team members following each performance.
