Shih clawed her way up from refugee to prostitute so she could support her sister with a disability. But when China’s pirate lord offers the chance of a lifetime, the sorceress Wu and her dark forces gather to destroy her before she can even accept…and fulfill a destiny from the gods! An action fantasy a la BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, complete with pirate queens, swords and sorcery!

 

Character breakdowns 

YI SHIH                 Refugee/prostitute/pirate-to-be. Asian female, late 20s. Can steamroller you with her sword arm, her brains or personality. Your choice.

YI XI                   Sister to Shih. Tradition-minded. Leg injury in childhood frustrates her. Asian female early 20s

CHENG AI                Pirate leader, Asian male male 30s to 40s, Oozes testosterone and charisma

CHENG PAO               Ai’s adopted son and second in command, Silver tongued, Asian male mid 20s

TAI YU                  Chinese god of destiny; impersonal and mysterious. Struggles to bring his thoughts down to human level.

WU TSU                  Chinese immortal/sorceress; Asian female 30s to 50s, exudes power and command.

HUANG ZHONG             Middle aged Asian male, sailor. Weaselly.

HUANG LING              His young niece

JIN GUANG               Young Nobleman, Asian male, 20s

PEI                     Crewman in Ai’s fleet, Asian male

MING FONG, LI HUANG     Fellow pirate captains, Asian males

ASSORTED CREW, CRIMINALS AND RUFFIANS Some non-Asian

 

Looking for actors with fight choreography or movement training (including martial arts); at least one person with puppetry skills.

Rehearsals will begin March 28th, typically Monday through Friday in the evenings

The show will open on May 28th and run till June 20th

Audition requirements

All actors are asked to bring in two 1-minute monologues; one comedic monologue and one dramatic monologue. A staged combat combination will be taught at the audition by the fight choreographer. Please arrive ready to move. This section of the audition will be recorded; this recording will be used strictly and exclusively for the purpose of audition review. Actors should expect to commit to one hour for auditions; we appreciate the flexibility. If an actor would still like to audition but is unable to commit to this time, please reach out to see if accommodations can be made.
