The Williams Project, a South Seattle theatre company dedicated to making theatrical excellence accessible to diverse and engaged audiences while paying artists a living wage, is seeking actors for a staged reading of The Amen Corner, written by James Baldwin and directed by Reggie D. White.
This reading is a developmental workshop heading towards a production to be held in November of 2022.

Synopsis:
“The Amen Corner” is the story of a black woman pastor of a storefront Harlem church whose religious certainty seeds trouble in the congregation and with her own son. The play mines Baldwin’s early life, which was dominated by a strict stepfather pastor and marked by his own teenage years in the pulpit.

Only vaccinated performers will be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required before any offer can be accepted.
First round: Prepare a 90-second monologue of your choosing and 30-60 seconds of a capella song (preferably gospel). Record and email to contact@thewilliamsproject.org by September 24th. Also include a headshot or selfie and resume or list of theatrical experience (if any).
If unable to record a video, open Zoom auditions will be held September 23-24. Email contact@thewilliamsproject.org providing availability between 10-6 both days.
