About the Project

The Williams Project, a South Seattle theatre company dedicated to making theatrical excellence accessible to diverse and engaged audiences while paying artists a living wage, is seeking actors for a staged reading of The Amen Corner, written by James Baldwin and directed by Reggie D. White.

This reading is a developmental workshop heading towards a production to be held in November of 2022.

Synopsis:

“The Amen Corner” is the story of a black woman pastor of a storefront Harlem church whose religious certainty seeds trouble in the congregation and with her own son. The play mines Baldwin’s early life, which was dominated by a strict stepfather pastor and marked by his own teenage years in the pulpit.
